I would propose that next frontier for art is scale independence (evolving in Microsoft Seadragon tech and in AR tech), because this is the (probably) only major thing that differentiates it from all other forms of art now. That is, new work of art must aloud infinite zoom in/zoom out in all dimensions for the viewer/creator and be “wired” with ones brain. Brain is an art in itself. Map becomes a territory, remember.
